Paintings - The spaces in between

In these paintings, I combined photos of my family as a jumping-off point to create something new – transforming environments and people as a sort of painting game for myself in the studio. There is something odd or awkward about these images, and at the same time a sense of joy. By playing with shapes, color and composition, I’m searching for a way to elevate the ordinary. The more abstract works in this collection were a sort of on-ramp into making the figurative works. It’s funny how process evolves sometimes…
